SPECIAL COKEBOTTLE GREEN VINYL WHICH REPRESENTS THE BEGINNNING OF AUTUMN!

My music is my voice
Paul David Gillman (Colours of the Earth)

I knew from an early age that music would be my life.
Art, sculpture, architecture and sound creation all fascinate me.
I learnt my craft through working with some of the finest musicians. I was very aware that the music I created would be assisted on a spiritual level and that would influence my writing too. I began to realise that whilst visiting art exhibitions and installations I could begin to hear music and visualise colours that were being channelled through my music. That process has never changed but has become more present as the journey continues. I can hear the beauty in a single sine wave or a full orchestral piece and the most amazing of them all is the sound of nature; bird songs and the dawn chorus are the most spectacular event of the day.

This album is a result of compositions of work that has spanned 10 years or more and to finally piece together has been equally thought about.

Winter moon was inspired by and written for a series of installations and artwork in a small yet spacious venue. Originally there was just too much material and was abandoned by the artists. They realised that it would be viewed eventually on a scaled version but over time I was approached to compose a piece that would set a mood for the event. Winter Moon is the edits from location recordings and Lings Yard comprising of many pieces from the Winter Moon Sessions. Wine Glass installation is a piece that was started from sampling an antique wine glass and I could hear the beauty in the single note it produced. It was taken from a project of experimenting with producing sounds from objects. I have used many household objects to create and generate sounds that I have fed into various samplers and effects.

I often find myself sitting in the garden just tuning in to whatever nature offers; the sound of the trees as the branches sway back and forth, like a build-up to a bridge of a song or effects. Birdsong has the most inspirational impact on my writing. I find some birdsong sequences to be so complicated yet some to be minimalistic but the blends of all their songs is just like listening to a piece of music with various instruments and crescendos.

Although architecture is mainly static, it can still provoke a mood or withhold lively acoustics. As a musician who loves to work with sound and nature, I have built up impulse responses from such structures and I see them in all of my compositions, together with a lot of sounds recorded on location.

I find simplicity in musical pieces very beautiful and yet mysterious. And that’s my approach to my music; simplistic. I spend a lot of time developing sound beds within the realms of a piece I’m writing, whilst keeping the bass or piano simple yet haunting. My musical influences are vast along the lines of Brian Eno, Harold Budd, David Sylvian and Samuel Barber.

The Winter Moon Sessions is a huge body of work comprising of more than a hundred pieces. I was spending a vast amount of time wandering around venues of installations and art exhibitions and then composing music of my experiences and moods from that day. As an artist paints I create music which is my canvas. I hope that you as a listener can see and hear what I have created as if you were looking at a painting or installation and make your own story to my creation.

As artists, we should treat ourselves to a blank canvas and get more inspiration from nature sounds. For me, it’s where it all begins.

The tracks on this album have been a labour of love and little snippets of my vast catalogue of compositions. I would like to thank my brother Joaquin Joe Claussell for his vision and belief in my music and this project. And most of all for his friendship and guidance over many years.

This album reflects a journey into Colours of the Earth (C.O.T.E).
